Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Knowledge Segments
Standby information: The nonfiction section already includes almost all major streams. Natural Sciences: Three titles in life sciences, two each in physical sciences and formal sciences, one each in applied sciences and science and environment, and two in health and wellness. Social Sciences: Two in anthropology, five in economics, three in the India region series and five in the world region series, public finance (title not yet announced), two in law and political sciences, two in management, and one in sociology. Humanities: Two in history/historical studies, literary studies (title not yet announced), eleven in linguistics and languages (these are retained as is now on the site; some will be clubbed due to cross-referencing wherever applicable, if required, and will be communicated at the time of release), one in philosophy, two language dictionaries, one in Buddhist studies, three in essays, spirituality (was moved to the Telugu section earlier), children’s nonfiction (title not yet announced), and learning and self-guides (title not yet announced: this section will be withdrawn because the new development is that these are now considered as public domain works by some publishers). We have a separate Definitions section as well. As mentioned earlier, there are several emerging fields and topics in sciences and social sciences. So these are being included. Then there is a realm of general reading (two titles included as super specials on the homepage, yet the scope is wide) and creative nonfiction, which is now being included. The scope in my field is large and wide. Selection and inclusion of titles is professional, based on knowledge, interest, and emerging developments, and in line with the theme of the nonfiction section. All domain-related books will have a preface or introduction as applicable, which is the general practice in publishing. General reading works have their own unique place in the writing world, and there are no limitations on topics that can be covered. There are many sub-classifications under Economics and Finance. In general, the classification of various genres in publishing is in accordance with various classification codes such as BIC by Book Information Communication, BISAC, or publishing-institution/platform specific codes. In general, it is mandatory to provide a category, genre info, or aforementioned classification while making any book available on any publishing platform. Major publishing organisations have their classifications as per the one adopted in place.
In general, books are released on Tuesdays.

Word of the Year 2025 (Multilingual)
Shortlist from the first half
Word of the year is based on events and important developments (do not imply social media trends and political slugfest) in that particular year. While only one or two terms or words can be selected as the term or word of the year from a language, some events, words, and terms that gain importance during the year due to various developments are worth mentioning. Hence, with a comprehensive approach, the attempt is to cover relevant terms and words in the shortlist. Some will find a place as and when considered fit and those that have missed attention or are significant will be added later in July. A similar process is likely for the second half. This will not be limited to one language because different events or words in various domains may trend or assume significance in different languages. Word of the year 2023 was in fifty languages yet for the same term. The endeavour, this year, will be to get different terms from different languages to the extent possible. Language equity is my word of the year in terms of the effort. Only terms and words will be available in the shortlist section (with relevant topic or place in brackets wherever applicable). Description will be available later for the terms and words of the year. It’s not just about existing terms or words, new terms or words may find a place as well. It is a standard practice by various Dictionaries to announce the word(s) of the year from November onwards. As usual, I will share word(s)/terms(s) of the year during the first week of January. As of March 31st, there is no reason to have this section here. I can simply announce the word(s) at the end of the year like every year. This section makes the process transparent. We will continue this section from July/September onwards.

Shortlist from Indian Languages
- సహాయక చర్యలు (Sahāyaka caryalu) This is in the context of ongoing rescue efforts (SLBC Tunnel) by state and central teams from the last week of February to rescue trapped personnel. (Search and Rescue) As of 26th March, there are reports of some casualties.

Auction of 44 mineral blocks including India’s first lithium block. While lithium can help e-vehicles, there are some environmental concerns as well. All efforts must be made to ensure that solutions don’t become a problem all across the world. I have mentioned it earlier that today’s innovations shouldn’t become tomorrow’s problems. So all precautions must be in place, and implications should be looked into as well.
- ज्ञानपीठ (Jnanpith) Award to veteran author Vinod Kumar Shukla from CG.
- समर्पण (Surrender) मुठभेड़ (Encounter) Some surrenders as well as encounters between security forces and Naxalites in South Chhattisgarh near the Telangana and Maharashtra border in recent times. This has been a long-standing issue with various views. One is the humanitarian aspect and protection of tribal areas. Another view is that those involved no longer stand for any cause, and violence is not a solution to any problem. There is increased frequency in recent times, with the Home Ministry setting a March 31st, 2026 deadline and call to surrender. This is a serious issue.
- We will continue this section from July/September onwards. (March 31st)
